Latvijas Pasts calls for participation in creation of new stamp in honor of Ērenpreiss, famous bicycle manufacturer

To mark the 125th anniversary of Gustavs Ērenpreiss, the famous Latvian bicycle brand creator, Latvijas Pasts in collaboration with today’s successors to Ērenpreiss traditions holds the fifth stamp design competition, where anyone is invited to share their ideas for the design of the new stamp. The winning stamp will be released with a print run of half a million copies, while the author will be awarded with an Ērenpreiss brand bicycle.

From May 9 to June 5, 2016, anyone interested, regardless of whether they are a private individual or a business entity, may send in their idea for the design of the Ērenpreiss themed stamp through the website http://jaunapastmarka.lv. The purpose of the competition is to honor the special occasion of the 125th anniversary of the creator of the legendary Latvian bicycle brand.

All the entries will be initially assessed by a team of judges composed of competent philately, graphic design and digital communication professionals. The winner out of the 30 shortlisted entries will be chosen by social network users who will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite stamp idea after logging in on the website http://jaunapastmarka.lv with their Twitter, Facebook or Draugiem account from June 9 to June 16.

The stamp that will obtain the most votes will be released with a print run of 500,000 copies and a denomination of EUR 0.50, corresponding to the cost of mailing a regular letter within Latvia. The new stamp will be issued on 23 July 2016. In addition to the chance to see the stamp with his or her design travel to countries far and near, the winner of the competition will receive a special prize – a personalized Ērenpreiss bicycle.

The stamp design contest, which is being held for the fifth time, has become a firmly established tradition of Latvijas Pasts that gives the general public an opportunity to get involved in the stamp design process. Otherwise, the stamp creation plan is managed by the special Stamp Issue Committee.

A total of 234 stamp design ideas were submitted for the previous contest held by Latvijas Pasts in collaboration with TV3 on the topic of Latvia’s Pride in 2014 and almost 6,385 votes were cast for the shortlisted entries by the users of the social networks Twitter, Facebook and Draugiem. The winner was the stamp Singing Trees by Solvita Kukle,

The winning stamp of 2013 was Imants Ziedonis Will Bloom Eternally created by Anda Pētersone, while the winning stamp of 2012 was designed by Jānis Uzraugs and depicted a BMX racer. The winner of the 2011 contest was Evita Eidinta with the stamp The Place Where Stories Are Born.
