The winner of the stamp design competition organized by Latvijas Pasts and the legendary bicycle brand Ērenpreiss is Puzzle by Toms Rutkovskis, which received 1,952 votes. A total of 9,097 votes were cast by social network users for the stamps shortlisted for the finals, and this is considerably – by 2,712 votes – more than in the previous contest. According to the jury, the stamp design entries submitted this year were of high artistic quality, and the voting turned out very intense.

The winner wasn’t really clear until the last minutes of the voting, and the difference of the votes between the first-place finisher and the runner-up is small. The 2nd place in the fierce battle for the prize was awarded to Vanda Gluha with 1,935 votes for the stamp Map (Karte). In turn, the 3rd place with 582 votes went to Raivis Mucenieks and his stamp design The Road Continues (Ceļš turpinās).

The public vote through the accounts in the social networks Twitter, Facebook and Draugiem ran from June 9 to June 16, and the voting was very intense from the very first day, with the participants of the competition and their supporters actively promoting their favorite stamp designs.

Compared with the previous competition in 2014, the share of votes received from various social networks has changed: most votes this year have been cast via Facebook, amounting to almost 58% of their total number; nearly 24% of the votes came from Twitter and 18% – from Draugiem. Most votes in the previous contest were received from Draugiem, followed by Facebook and Twitter.

The winning stamp will be released with a print run of 500,000 copies, each with a denomination of €0.50, corresponding to the cost of mailing a regular letter within Latvia. The stamp presentation event and the awarding of the winner will take place as part of Mazsalaca Town Festival on July 23, 2016, during which the 125th anniversary of Gustavs Ērenpreiss, the founder of Ērenpreiss, will be celebrated. In addition to the chance to see the stamp with his design travel to countries far and near, the winner of the competition will receive a special prize – a personalized Ērenpreiss bicycle.

A total of 210 stamp design ideas were submitted for the fifth Latvijas Pasts new stamp design competition, which is being held this year in collaboration with the today’s developers of Ērenpreiss brand. The professional jury composed of experts in graphic design, philately and marketing shortlisted 30 entries for the final vote. In assessing the entries, the jury looked at the relevance of the submitted design ideas to the theme of the competition as well as the artistic quality, esthetics and sustainability.

The stamp design contest has become a tradition of Latvijas Pasts that gives the general public an opportunity to get involved in the stamp design process. Otherwise, the stamp creation plan is managed by the special Stamp Issue Committee.

A total of 234 stamp design ideas were submitted for the previous contest held by Latvijas Pasts in collaboration with TV3 on the topic of Latvia’s Pride in 2014 and almost 6,385 votes were cast for the shortlisted entries by the users of the social networks Twitter, Facebook and Draugiem. The winner was the stamp Singing Trees by Solvita Kukle.
