The stamp dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the law on restoration of the statehood of the Republic of Latvia to be presented at the Saeima

Latvijas Pasts has released a special stamp to mark the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Law On the Statehood of the Republic of Latvia adopted by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia. The Law restored the national independence of Latvia based on the principles contained in the Constitution of 1922. The official presentation of the stamp will be held on the 21st of August 2016 as part of the celebratory events organised by the Saeima (the Parliament) in honor of the restoration of the statehood of the Republic of Latvia, and the first day cancellation will take place at the National Archives of Latvia.

The stamp has been released with a print run of 200,000 copies, and its face value is €0.50, which corresponds to the cost of sending a regular class B letter within Latvia. The stamp depicts the front page of the special issue of the newspaper Diena that came out on the 21st of August 1991. This issue contained the published Constitutional Law On the Statehood of the Republic of Latvia adopted by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia, which restored the de facto national independence of the Republic of Latvia. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,500 copies.

The presentation of the stamp and the cover created in honour of this occasion will be opened by the Speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece and the Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts Mārcis Vilcāns in the Voting Room of the Saeima at 11 Jēkaba Street at 10 AM on the 21st of August. In turn, the first day cancellation of the new stamp and the cover is scheduled to take place at the National Archives of Latvia at 11 Šķūņu Street, Riga from 9 AM to 6 PM on the same day. All those interested in participating in the stamp presentation at the Saeima are welcome to apply for their participation in the event until 12 noon of the 18th of August 2016 by writing to the e-mail address: infofil@pasts.lv.

The stamp and the cover Adoption of the Constitutional Law by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia – 25 have been designed by the artist Arta Ozola Jaunarāja, and both new philatelic releases can be viewed here.

The next new philatelic release is scheduled for 9 September 2016.
