Latvijas Pasts has released a set of postage stamps issued in 2016; 30 new stamps are planned for 2017

Latvijas Pasts has released a set of postage stamps issued in 2016, which includes all stamps issued during this year: a total of 25 stamp releases, consisting of 31 stamps and four stamp blocks. In 2017 Latvijas Pasts plans to make 23 new stamp releases, which will consist of 30 stamps and two stamp blocks.

The set of postage stamps is a convenient way of collecting stamps, as it contains all stamps issued this year and there is no need to purchase their individual releases in points of sale. Taking into account various print runs of stamps and the fact that the print runs of certain releases happen to be quite small, the set serves as a guarantee of becoming the owner of all stamps at the same time.

The sets of the most recent stamps are available for everyone interested in the largest post offices of Latvijas Pasts, in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts and – until the 31st of December – in the special post office of Latvijas Pasts in the Greeting House in the Dome Square, Riga.

A large part of the stamps issued in 2016 continued the already well-known and traditional stamp series, such as Flowers, Latvian Birds, Latvian Architecture, Lighthouses of Latvia, Republic of Latvia – 100, Christmas, etc. A new addition was the first stamp in the series Historical Ships of the 19th Century, which was launched this year. The stamp was dedicated to Andreas Weide, the largest sailing ship ever built in the territory of Latvia. The yearly stamp issued by Latvijas Pasts which can be created with the participation of anyone interested and which becomes the winner as a result of the public vote in social networks has already become a tradition. In 2016 this stamp design competition was held in memory of the 125th anniversary of Gustavs Ērenpreiss, the legendary Latvian bicycle brand creator.

In 2017 Latvijas Pasts also plans to launch new series of stamps which will be dedicated to the most outstanding personalities among Latvian contemporary artists.

The postage stamp issue plan is developed by the Stamp Issue Committee on the basis of the proposals submitted regarding the stamp themes related to events significant for Latvia, history, nature, architecture, culture, science and sporting achievements as well as other events and important personalities. Currently the Stamp Issue Committee is composed of the representatives of Latvijas Pasts, Rector of the Art Academy of Latvia Aleksejs Naumovs and Vice President of the Latvian Philatelic Society Egils Plūme.

The postage stamps released in 2016 and included in the postage stamp year set can be viewed here.
