The release dedicated to the 11th World Floorball Championships has become the most favourite Latvijas Pasts stamp of 2016

The release dedicated to the 11th World Floorball Championships has been selected as the most favourite Latvijas Pasts stamp of 2016. This has become known as a result of the contest for the most beautiful stamp of 2016 held by Latvijas Pasts and the news portal Delfi. The stamp dedicated to floorball has received 662 votes. The winners of the second and third places are the stamps related to the ornithological theme.

A total of 4,482 votes were cast in the contest for the most acclaimed stamp of 2016, which was held in collaboration with the news portal Delfi from the 23rd of January to the 6th of February 2017. The stamp World Floorball Championships in Riga was released in honour of the largest and most important floorball event which took place for the eleventh time in 2016, and it was the first time that Latvia was entrusted with hosting the event. The Championships ran from the 3rd to the 11th of December 2016 and involved teams from 16 countries. The stamp was designed by the artist Artis Zeiļa. Its print is 200,000 copies and its face value is € 0.64.

The winners of the second and third places in the contest for the stamp of 2016 are the philatelic releases related to the ornithological theme: the stamp in the Birds series depicting the Eurasian pygmy owl, which is the smallest owl species found in Latvia, received 589 votes, while the stamp Aberrant Birds in the series Unique Exhibits of Latvian Museum of Natural History got 436 votes. The winning stamp of the fourth place is also dedicated to birds, namely the great spotted woodpecker, which was given the title of Latvia’s Bird of the Year 2016. The stamp received 389 votes.

In 2016 Latvijas Pasts made 25 stamp releases, consisting of 31 stamps and four stamp blocks. The total number of the stamps issued by Latvijas Pasts in 2016 is nine million.

In 2017 Latvijas Pasts plans to make 23 new stamp releases, which will consist of 30 stamps and two stamp blocks.
