Latvijas Pasts releases a special cover to mark the 90th anniversary of the Philatelic and Numismatic Department of the Riga Latvian Society, currently the Philatelic Society

Latvijas Pasts has released a cover dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Philatelic and Numismatic Department of the Riga Latvian Society. The special cancellation of the new cover will take place in Riga post office No. 50 located in the shopping centre Origo, 2 Stacijas laukums, Riga, all day long, from 10 AM to 7 PM, on the 7th of May 2017.

The print run of the cover is 1,000 copies, and it has been designed in collaboration with the Latvian Philatelic Society. The designer of the first day postmark is the artist Ģirts Grīva.

The design of the new cover incorporates the outline of the map of Latvia, old postal philatelic releases and Latvian lats coins.

The Philatelist and Numismatist Department of the Riga Latvian Society was founded on the 7th of May 1927 and over time it was transformed into the Latvian Philatelic Society. Nowadays the Society plays an important role in both the creation of Latvian philatelic releases and the organisation of the social life of Latvian philatelists.

The new cover Philatelic and Numismatic Department of the Riga Latvian Society – 90 can be viewed here.

The next new philatelic release is scheduled for the 9th of May 2017.
