To mark the 15th anniversary of KNAB, Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp devoted to the fight against corruption
This autumn, the 10th of October 2017 marks 15 years since the Corruption Prevention and Combatting Bureau of Latvia (KNAB) started its operation. In honour of this event Latvijas Pasts has released a new stamp and a cover. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place in Tallink Hotel Riga at 24 Elizabetes Street from 9 AM to 5 PM on the 10th of October, the day when the KNAB was established.

The print run of the stamp is 200,000 copies and its face value is € 0.50, which corresponds to the cost of sending a regular Class B letter within Latvia. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,500 copies. The new philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Arta Ozola-Jaunarāja.

The stamp features the KNAB’s motto Honour Above Power, which signifies the high importance of honour in the fight against corruption. The notion of honour explains the attitude of a person towards himself or herself and the attitude of society towards the particular person, while honesty includes values such as trust, truthfulness and integrity. In turn, chess pieces on the stamp symbolically represent the process of anti-corruption fight.

KNAB is a public administration institution under the supervision of the Cabinet of Ministers. Its functions include the prevention and combatting of corruption, as well as the control over the implementation of the rules of financing of political organisations and their associations.

The Bureau started its operation on the 10th of October 2002.
