Cancellation of the special cover dedicated to the XXVI Nationwide Latvian Song and XVI Dance Celebration is to be held

Latvijas Pasts has released a special cover in honour of the XXVI Nationwide Latvian Song and XVI Dance Celebration. The special cancellation of the cover is scheduled to take place in Riga post office No. 50 located in the shopping centre Origo, 2 Stacijas laukums, Riga from 8 AM to 7 PM on the 6th of July 2018.

The XXVI Nationwide Latvian Song and XVI Dance Celebration is taking place in Riga from the 30th of June to the 8th of July 2018, and Latvijas Pasts has dedicated a special cover and a special postmark to commemoration of this celebration. The background image of the envelope features a fragment from a photo of the joint choir of the Song Celebration, and it also depicts the symbol of the centenary of the Latvian State and the symbol of the centenary Song and Dance Celebration.

The print run of the cover is 1,000 copies, and it has been designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva.  

In addition to the special cover released in honour of the XXVI Nationwide Latvian Song and XVI Dance Celebrations, Latvijas Pasts has also dedicated three stamps in the series Republic of Latvia – 100 to the Song and Dance Celebration movement.

A total of 43,000 participants from 118 municipalities of Latvia, as well as other countries of the world where Latvians maintain and develop the tradition of the Song and Dance Celebration, have arrived in Riga for the festive week. During seven days they are taking part in more than 65 events, such as concert programmes featuring choirs, dance performances, wind bands, kokle (zither) players, folk musicians, vocal ensembles, folklore groups, etc., the Latvian national costume show, the applied folk art exhibition and amateur theatre performances. 500,000 celebration-goers will be able to attend various events during the festivities.
