The most recent stamp in the series Latvian Architecture features the water tower at Matīsa Street painted by the artist Aleksejs Naumovs

The newest series Latvian Architecture is dedicated to the theme of water towers: the stamp depicts one of the oldest and most architecturally appealing water towers in Riga, which is located at Matīsa Street. The new stamp has been designed by the artist Aleksejs Naumovs. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place in Riga post office No. 10 at 41/43 Elizabetes Street, Riga from 8 AM to 8 PM on the 29th of March 2019.

The face value of the new stamp is € 0.61, making it suitable for sending an ordinary Class A letter within Latvia. Its print run is 200,000 copies. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies. The stamp and the cover have been designed by the artist A. Naumovs, professor and former rector at the Art Academy of Latvia.

The Matīsa Street Water Tower, which is depicted on the stamp, is one of the most interesting elements of the municipal engineering of Riga, and it is well visible in the Riga skyline. The water tower is one of the first water supply systems of this type constructed in Riga. It was built from 1896 to 1897 according to the design by architects Otto Intze and Rūdolfs Frišs. The water tower functioned until 1905, but now its reservoir is empty. The building has been designated as an architectural monument of national importance.

The stamp series Latvian Architecture has been released since 2010, highlighting the most significant historical buildings or modern developments. The stamps issued in previous years feature Dailes Theatre, the Concert Hall Cēsis, the Academic Centre for Natural Sciences of the University of Latvia in Torņakalns and other Latvian pieces of architecture.
