Latvijas Pasts is going to present stamps dedicated to the centenary anniversary of the University of Latvia

Latvijas Pasts has released two stamps in honour of the centenary anniversary of the University of Latvia. The first day cancellation of the stamps is scheduled to take place at the main building of the University of Latvia at 19 Raiņa bulvāris, Riga, from 9 AM to 6 PM on the 27th of September 2019. The official presentation of the stamps will be held in the Small Hall of the University of Latvia at 2 PM and it will see the participation of the representatives of the management of Latvijas Pasts and the University of Latvia.

Each of the stamps has a different face value: the stamp with the face value of € 0.57 is suitable for sending an ordinary Class A letter within Latvia, while the stamp with the face value of € 0.85 can be used to send an ordinary Class A letter to any country in the world outside the European Union. The individual print run of each stamp is 300,000 copies, and the release of the stamps is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies. The philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva.

One of the stamps features the central building of the University of Latvia at 19 Raiņa bulvāris, while the other stamp depicts the House of Science of the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia.

The University of Latvia was founded on the 28th of September 1919, but its origins date back to the second half of the 19th century, when Latvian public and cultural figures called on Latvians to seek knowledge and quality education. Today the University of Latvia is the largest institution of academic and professional higher education and science in Latvia, which combines and develops the potential of studies and scientific research in the field of natural sciences, technical sciences, humanities and social sciences.

The next philatelic release is scheduled for the 3rd of October.
