In 2020 – 17 new stamp releases with a print run of over 5 million copies

In 2020 Latvijas Pasts plans to make 17 stamp releases – a total of 29 postage stamps and one stamp block with an overall print run of more than five million copies. The new stamps will be both included in the already familiar thematic series and designed as special original releases. Two new philatelic releases are planned on a self-adhesive base.

Among the already popular series, which will be supplemented by new stamps in 2020, we should mention History of Latvian Shipping, Unique Exhibits of Latvian Museum of Natural History, Latvian Architecture and Latvian Birds.

In 2020 stamps in the single pan-European Europa series will also be issued, featuring the theme of Ancient Postal Routes. The Lighthouses of Latvia series will be supplemented with the stamp depicting Irbe Lighthouse, which is the only lighthouse in the territorial waters of Latvia. In turn, the new stamp in the Outstanding Latvian Artists series will be dedicated to world-renowned Latvian artist Gustav Klutsis (Gustavs Klucis).

Stamps will also be released to commemorate the first Latvian opera Baņuta, the 250th anniversary of composer Ludwig van Beethoven and the 100th anniversary of Riga State Technical School and to mark the International Year of Plant Health.

Two philatelic releases of 2020 are planned on a self-adhesive base: the new releases in the Coats of Arms of Latvian Towns and Municipalities series and the stamps in the traditional Christmas series.

The first postage stamps of 2020 will be issued already on the 3rd of January, and these will be standard stamps in the traditional Coats of Arms of Latvian Towns and Municipalities series, this time featuring the coats of arms of Babīte, Durbe, Koknese, Krimulda and Viļāni Municipalities.

In 2019 Latvijas Pasts released 34 stamps and one stamp block, with their total print run exceeding 5 million copies. All stamps issued in 2019 can be viewed here. The decisions regarding the postage stamp issue plan are made by the special Stamp Issue Committee.
