Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp featuring the historical four-mast motor-sailing ship Eurasia build in Engure Municipality
Latvijas Pasts has released a new stamp in the series Historical Ships of the 19th Century, featuring the four-mast motor-sailing ship Eurasia built in Engure Municipality in 1925. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place in Riga post office No. 10 at 41/43 Elizabetes Street from 8 AM to 8 PM on the 31st of January 2020.

The face value of the new stamp is €1.27, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class from 21 to 100 grams within Latvia. The release of stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies. The philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Elita Viliama.

The new stamp in the series of historical ships depicts the four-mast motor-sailing ship Eurasia built in Plieņciems, Engure Municipality in 1925 and constructed by the renowned Latvian shipbuilder Mārtiņš Morgenšterns. Eurasia was the last largest wooden ship built in Latvia, with a length of 45.5 metres and deadweight of 513 tonnes. In 1933 the ship was wrecked and sunk while transporting cargo across the Atlantic Ocean.

In turn, the second stamp depicts the four-mast gaff schooner Abraham built in Ventspils in 1891. All stamps in the series can be seen here.
