A new service is offered from now on – tracking of items without delivery against signature
By analogy with a number of foreign postal establishments Latvijas Pasts starts to offer a new service: tracking of items without delivery against signature. Until now, tracking of items was only possible for registered/signed for items, which are delivered to the addressees against their signature and are a more expensive type of service compared to the processing of ordinary items. The new service provides item tracking, which will allow the customer to see the route of their item in an electronic environment, but delivery will be the same as for ordinary items – into the letter-box or to the post office if the item size prevents it from being placed into the letter-box. Consequently, the price of the service will be lower than for registered/signed for items.

Taking into consideration the experience of a number of foreign postal establishments, Latvijas Pasts also starts to offer a new service: tracking of items without delivery against signature. This means that the customer will be able to opt for the additional service Tracking of items when sending ordinary items, such as letters and items with documents or small articles – either domestically or to 37 foreign countries. The item thus processed will be assigned a number and a barcode similar to registered/signed for or insured items, which will allow the tracking of the item in the electronic environment, but the new service does not provide for the delivery of the item against signature, which will still only apply to registered/signed for or insured items.

Traceable items will be delivered to the addressees as ordinary items – into the letter-box or to the post office if the item size prevents it from being placed into the letter-box. The fact of delivery of these items into the letter-box will be recorded by postmen on their smart devices and will be reflected in the tracking system. For deliveries of items that exceed the size of the letter-box the customer will receive a text message invitation on his or her mobile phone if the correct phone number is indicated on the item, or an invitation in paper format if the phone number is missing.

As traceable items are delivered without a signature for delivery, the cost of this service will be lower than for registered/signed for or insured items. Differences in types of items can be seen here:
Detailed information on the new service and the 37 countries to which it is available can be found here. An infographic of the different types of items and the pricing mechanism when using additional services is available here.
