Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp dedicated to the International Year of Plant Health

On the 29th of May 2020 Latvijas Pasts plans to release a new postage stamp and a cover dedicated to the International Year of Plant Health declared by the United Nations (UN). The new stamp will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. Those interested in the first day cancellation options are invited to contact us by writing to the e-mail address: filatelija@pasts.lv

The print run of the new stamp is 150,000 copies and its face value is € 2.25, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class from 21 to 100 grams to the countries located in zone 3. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies. The stamp and the cover have been designed by the artist Ludis Danilāns.

On the new stamp the artist has depicted the plant kingdom in a stylised way, symbolising the essential role of plant health in the existence of humankind and nature.

Taking into consideration that public events, including the first day stamp cancellation at post offices, are currently suspended due to security requirements, stamp collectors and those interested in philately are invited to contact the Stamp and Philately Department of Latvijas Pasts regarding stamp cancellation options by writing to the e-mail address: filatelija@pasts.lv.

The UN declared 2020 the International Year of Plant Health to raise the awareness of the public and policymakers of the importance of healthy plants and the need to protect them in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development – reducing hunger and poverty, protecting the environment and boosting national economic development.

The stamp and the cover International Year of Plant Health are available for viewing here

The next philatelic release is scheduled for the 19th of June.
