Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Latvian National Guard

On the 11th of August 2021 Latvijas Pasts releases a new stamp to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Latvian National Guard. The new stamp will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. Those interested in the first day cancellation options are invited to contact us by writing to the e-mail address: filatelija@pasts.lv.

The print run of the stamp Latvian National Guard is 50,000 copies and its face value is €1.00, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 20 grams within Latvia. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies. The stamp and the cover have been designed by the artist Arta Ozola-Jaunarāja.

In the design of the stamp the artist has used a photograph by the photographer Gatis Dieziņš, which shows a fragment from the military training of the national guards, while the cover features the coat of arms of the Latvian National Guard.

The 23rd of August 2021 will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Latvian National Guard. The National Guard is the largest and territorially most represented structure of the National Armed Forces and the basis of national defence. As of today, more than 8,300 Latvian citizens have already acquired and continue to improve the skills and abilities necessary for national defence in the free time from their main occupation – work or studies. The National Guard not only performs military duties, but also carries out other important tasks for the whole of society, such as providing support in the search for missing people, destroying explosives, participating in rescue operations, extinguishing fires and eliminating the damage caused by floods.
