Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp dedicated to the Latvian national 3x3 basketball team, gold medallists of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games
On the 29th of November 2021 Latvijas Pasts releases a new postage stamp and a cover in honour of the gold medallists of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo: the Latvian national 3x3 basketball team composed of Agnis Čavars, Nauris Miezis, Kārlis Pauls Lasmanis and Edgars Krūmiņš. The new stamp will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. The print run of the new stamp is 20,000 copies and its face value is €1.00, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 20 grams within Latvia. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies. 
 
The philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva, while the photograph used in the design was taken by the photographer Mikus Kļaviņš. 
 
The Latvian national 3x3 basketball team – Agnis Čavars, Nauris Miezis, Kārlis Pauls Lasmanis and Edgars Krūmiņš – won the first Olympic champion title in 3x3 basketball at the Tokyo Olympic Games and the fourth Olympic gold medals since the independence of Latvia. The Latvian 3x3 basketball team has been playing in the same composition since the 2017 season, when it earned its first big success, winning the European Championship. In 2018 the team took the 2nd place in the European Championship, in 2019 – the 2nd place in the World Cup, and in 2020 it came first in the final round and overall rating of the club team World Tour under the flag of the team Riga.

The first day stamp cancellation is not being held at post offices during the spread of the COVID-19 infection, so stamp collectors and those interested in philately are invited to contact the Stamp and Philately Department of Latvijas Pasts regarding stamp cancellation options by writing to the e-mail address: filatelija@pasts.lv.
 
The new stamp and the cover will first be available for purchase at Riga post office No. 10 at 41/43 Elizabetes Street and at the post centre Sakta at 32 Brīvības bulvāris, Riga, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/.  
 
The next philatelic release is scheduled for the next year – January 2022.
