Latvijas Pasts plans to issue 22 new stamp releases with a print run of approximately three million copies in 2022
In 2022, Latvijas Pasts plans to make 22 stamp releases – a total of 27 postage stamps and two stamp blocks with an overall print run of more than three million copies. The new stamps will be included in the already familiar thematic series and two new series and also designed as special original releases. Latvijas Pasts is set to release the first stamps on the 14th of January 2022.

Among the already popular series, which will be supplemented by new stamps in 2022, we should mention History of Latvian Shipping, Latvian Architecture and Latvian Birds. This year’s stamps in the single pan-European Europa series will be dedicated to the theme of Stories & Myths, while the second stamp releases will be made in the series Latvian Museums and Fairy Tales of the World, which were launched last year.

This year, Latvijas Pasts also plans to issue stamps in two new series: Domestic Animals and Latvian Manors.

Stamps will also be released to commemorate significant events: the 100th anniversary of the Constitution (Satversme) of the Republic of Latvia, the 100th anniversary of the Parliament (Saeima) of the Republic of Latvia and the centenary of the diplomatic relations between Latvia and the United States. A special joint release is planned with the Vatican, issuing a stamp in honour of the Concordat between Latvia and the Holy See: an agreement between the Pope of Rome and the state regarding the status of the Catholic Church in the territory of the contracting state, which was signed 100 years ago.

Special stamps will also be issued on the centenaries of the Latvian Olympic Committee and the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia.

In 2022, it is planned to dedicate new stamps to several outstanding personalities of this country: painter Vilhelms Purvītis, writer Zenta Mauriņa, artist and writer Hilda Vīka, as well as physical chemist and historian of science Jānis Stradiņš.

A stamp will also be dedicated to the restored Occupation Museum, and a philatelic release will be traditionally created in collaboration with the Latvian Fund for Nature, recalling rare and protected plants.

Two philatelic releases of 2022 are planned to be issued on a self-adhesive base: they will be part of the series Domestic Animals and Christmas

Latvijas Pasts plans to release the first four stamps on the 14th of January 2022 and they will be stamps in the new series Domestic Animals.

In 2021, Latvijas Pasts released 27 stamps and two stamp blocks, with their total print run exceeding three million copies. All stamps issued in 2021 can be viewed here

A postage stamp is a postage voucher, which is used worldwide to pay for the forwarding of postal items, and at the same time a stamp can also be a valuable collectible item. The Latvian postage stamp issue plan is determined by the specially established Stamp Issue Committee.
