Latvijas Pasts launches a new philatelic series Latvian Manors – the first stamp is dedicated to Švarcmuiža Manor in Riga
Latvijas Pasts has launched a new series of stamps Latvian Manors, and its first release is dedicated to Švarcmuiža Manor at Daugavgrīvas Street, Riga. The design of the new stamp in the form of a miniature painting was created by the artist Aleksejs Naumovs. The new philatelic release will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. The first day cancellation of the stamp cover is scheduled to take place in the post centre Sakta at 32 Brīvības bulvāris, Riga, from 9 AM to 6 PM on the 11th of March.

The first stamp in the series Latvian Manors depicts the building of Švarcmuiža Manor, located at Daugavgrīvas Street, Riga. The print run of the stamp is 50,000 copies and its face value is €2.34, which corresponds to the postage of ordinary letters weighing from 21 to 100 grams to the countries in Group 1. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 800 copies. The stamp and the cover have been designed by the artist A. Naumovs, professor and former rector at the Art Academy of Latvia.

The author of the building of Švarcmuiža Manor is the architect Mathias von Holst, who designed the house in the Neo-Renaissance style. The building complex was constructed in 1872 and is now an architectural monument of local significance. It is this manor that gave the name to the neighbourhood Āgenskalns (Hagensberg) in the 17th century, as it was formerly called Hagen Manor and Hagenhof. From 1873, the owner of Švarcmuiža Manor was Johann Christoph Schwarz (1846–1915). At the beginning of the 20th century, the Schwarz family sold the manor, but after the agrarian reform of 1920, the inalienable part of Švarcmuiža Manor was taken over by the city of Riga, and it is still the property of the city of Riga.

The stamps in the new series will first be available for purchase at Riga post office No. 10 at 41/43 Elizabetes Street, Riga post office No. 50 in the shopping centre Origo at 2 Stacijas laukums, post centre Sakta at 32 Brīvības bulvāris, Riga, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/.

The new series of stamps Latvian Manors will continue stories about Latvian architecture. There are more than 1,000 manors in Latvia, and the fate of many of them has been quite harsh, so Latvijas Pasts plans to provide insight into the history of Latvian manors and the development of architectural styles over the centuries through postage stamps.

The next philatelic release is scheduled for the 25th of March.
