Latvijas Pasts releases a new stamp in the series Fairy Tales of the World – it features Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Latvijas Pasts has issued the second stamp in the series Fairy Tales of the World, and the theme of the new release is related to the fairy tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by the famous English writer Lewis Carroll. The new stamp will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/ starting from the 29th of April 2022. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place in the post centre Sakta at 32 Brīvības bulvāris, Riga, from 9 AM to 6 PM on the 29th of April 2022.

The face value of the new stamp is €1.20, and it corresponds to the postage of letter-post items weighing up to 20 grams in Latvia. The print run of the stamp is 50,000 copies. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 800 copies. The philatelic releases have been designed by the well-known Latvian artist and illustrator of children’s books Anita Paegle.

On the new postage stamp, the artist has depicted a scene from the fairy tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and portrayed the characters of the fairy tale: Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Hare.

The fairy tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland written by L. Carroll (1832–1898) is about a girl named Alice who sees a talking white rabbit, follows it down the hole in a heartbeat and ends up in Wonderland. In this fantasy world, she meets various extraordinary creatures and experiences a lot of unusual things: there are funny characters, fun situations and exciting dialogues in the fairy tale. It is a great read not only for children but also for adults.
