Latvijas Pasts releases a new stamp on the centenary of the Latvian Olympic Committee

On the 12th of May 2022, Latvijas Pasts releases a new stamp and a cover dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Latvian Olympic Committee. The new philatelic releases will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place in Latvian Sport Museum at 9 Alksnāja Street, Riga, from 9 AM to 3 PM on the 12th of May 2022.

The face value of the new stamp is €1.20, and it corresponds to the postage of letter-post items weighing up to 20 grams in Latvia. The print run of the stamp is 50,000 copies. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 800 copies. The philatelic releases have been designed by Ģirts Grīva.

The visual design of the philatelic releases has a solemn vibe to it: the most important sports represented by Latvia at the Olympic Games, as well as the official logo of the Committee are artistically depicted on the postage stamp and the cover.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Latvian Olympic Committee, which is the most recognisable sports organisation in Latvia and whose primary function is to supervise the representation of Latvian athletes at the Olympic Games, including both the preparation of athletes and the delegation of the Latvian team. The Committee is composed of the representatives of 39 Olympic sports federations and elected individual members. Its main governing body is the General Assembly.

The new stamp and the cover Latvian Olympic Committee – 100 can be viewed here.

The next philatelic release is scheduled for the 18th of May.
