Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Zenta Mauriņa, an outstanding Latvian essayist

On the 28th of October 2022, Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp and a cover in honour of the 125th anniversary of Zenta Mauriņa (1897–1978), an outstanding Latvian essayist, philosopher, writer and translator. The new stamp will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place in the post centre Sakta at 32 Brīvības bulvāris, Riga, from 9 AM to 6 PM on the 28th of October.

The print run of the new stamp is 25,000 copies and the print run of the cover is 800 copies. The face value of the stamp is €1.20 and it corresponds to the postage of items in the weight class up to 20 grams in Latvia.

The philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Lilija Dinere. In the visual design of the stamp and the cover, the artist has used materials from the Misiņš Library of the Academic Library of the University of Latvia and the Literature and Music Museum, as well as a reproduction of L. Dinere's painting Sapnis (Dream) (1997).

Z. Mauriņa was a brilliant writer, translator, founder and perfector of the Latvian literary and philosophical essay genre, as well as a lecturer who captivated audiences from Latvia, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Her life became the shining example of the greatness of human spirit and will, as well as the triumph of creative power. The writer herself always emphasised her Latvian roots, although often the style of the message of her works characterised by pronounced subjectivity, undisguised ambition and categorical nature allowed Z. Mauriņa to rank among spiritualists from afar, simultaneously increasing the number of her passionate admirers and equally passionate detractors.

The new stamp and the cover Zenta Mauriņa – 125 can be viewed here.

The next philatelic release is scheduled for the 11th of November.
