Latvijas Pasts releases a new stamp in the series Fairy Tales of the World – it features Sleep Fairy Tale by Juris Zvirgzdiņš and Anita Paegle

Latvijas Pasts has made an addition to the series of stamps Fairy Tales of the World. The theme of the most recent release in the series is related to Miega pasaka (Sleep Fairy Tale) written by Juris Zvirgzdiņš and lavishly illustrated by the artist Anita Paegle. The new stamp will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place at Riga post office No. 10, 41/43 Elizabetes Street, Riga, from 9 AM to 6 PM on the 14th of April 2023.

The face value of the new stamp is €1.65, and it corresponds to the postage of letter-post items weighing up to 20 grams in Latvia. The print run of the stamp is 25,000 copies. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 500 copies. The philatelic releases have been designed by the well-known Latvian artist and illustrator of children’s books A. Paegle

On the new postage stamp, the artist has depicted a scene from J. Zvirgzdiņš’ Sleep Fairy Tale and portrayed the main characters of the book: Matīss the boy, Muris the cat, Brunis the toy bear and the sheep.

Sleep Fairy Tale by Juris Zvirgzdiņš is a story of a five-year-old boy Matīss who was accidentally left home alone together with Muris the cat and Brunis the toy bear. Matīss can’t sleep, and he starts counting sheep in his imagination, because counting sheep is considered a good remedy for falling asleep. And this is how the adventures begin. The fairy tale book features lavish, wonderful and very realistic illustrations by the well-known Latvian artist A. Paegle.
