Resuming the historical stamp series Latvian National Parks, Latvijas Pasts dedicates a special stamp to the most recent national park in Latvia – the Rāzna National Park. Its design in the form of a miniature painting was created by the artist Aleksejs Naumovs. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place at Lūznava Manor, 8 Pils Street, Lūznava, from 10 AM to 4 PM on the 14th of July 2023. A special presentation of the stamp, which is scheduled to start at 1 PM, will see the participation of representatives of Latvijas Pasts and the Nature Conservation Agency.
The face value of the new stamp is €1.65, and it corresponds to the postage of letter-post items weighing up to 20 grams in Latvia. The print run of the stamp is 50,000 copies. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 500 copies.
The newest stamp in the series Latvian National Parks artistically depicts the picturesque Rāzna Lake, which is called not only the heart of the Rāzna National Park, but also of the whole of Latgale. The stamp and the cover have been designed by the artist A. Naumovs, professor and former rector at the Art Academy of Latvia
The Rāzna National Park is one of Latvia’s newest and largest specially protected sites. It is included in Natura 2000, a network of nature protection areas of the European Union, as well as in the list of internationally important bird areas. The Rāzna National Park has been preserving the cultural landscape and natural values characteristic of Latgale for more than 15 years.
According to Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, “We are delighted to release a new commemorative stamp that highlights the Rāzna National Park, one of Latvia’s natural gems. With this stamp, we hope to inspire and remind people of the importance of preserving and protecting Latvia’s natural values and wealth. We believe that this stamp will promote the name of the Rāzna National Park on a broader scale and encourage people to explore and take pride in the natural heritage that characterises this country.”

The terrain of the Rāzna National Park, created by Mother Nature, is unique – it features hills and hollows with lakes, which have always been accompanied by humans who have shaped the landscape through their activities. In the same way, our unique Latgalian language and culinary heritage are all reasons why people return time and time again to the Rāzna National Park and other places in Latgale. Those who visit this place leave spiritually enriched. We are happy that this message about Rāzna is now available in the form of a stamp,” says Anda Zeize, Director of the Latgale Regional Administration of the Nature Conservation Agency.
The stamp series Latvian National Parks was launched in 1997, and six stamps were issued until 1999, featuring the specially protected areas of Latvia: the Moricsala, Krustkalni, Slītere and Teiči Nature Reserves, the Gauja National Park and the Grīņi Nature Reserve. This series was greatly appreciated by collectors as a publication of miniature graphics promoting the positive image of Latvia.
