SRS changes the customs clearance procedure for postal items: from the 19th of November 2019 customers have to carry out this procedure on their own

Starting from the 19th of November 2019 the State Revenue Service (SRS) changes the procedure for processing items subject to customs clearance. From that date the taxes and duties to be paid by recipients of postal items from third countries will no longer be calculated by customs officers, but customers will have to submit their own customs declaration via the SRS Electronic Declaration System (EDS). It will also be possible to carry out customs clearance through a customs broker of Latvijas Pasts for a fee.

To declare goods received from third countries for which customs payments have to be made, including goods purchased in online stores, which are worth more than 22 euro, and private non-commercial items worth over 45 euro, two options for customs clearance of goods according to the new SRS procedure are available to all customers starting from the 19th of November.

It will be possible to clear goods free of charge via the SRS EDS www.eds.vid.gov.lv, uploading the item documents and making customs payments online. More information on the possibilities of receiving items from countries outside the European Union and the customs clearance procedure is available on the SRS website: https://www.vid.gov.lv/lv/pasts

If the recipient of an item does not wish to carry out customs clearance procedures himself or herself, it is possible to use the paid services of a customs broker of Latvijas Pasts: https://pasts.lv/lv/muita/

Items from countries outside the European Union that are subject to customs clearance account for up to 1% of the average annual amount of items received by Latvijas Pasts. If an item subject to customs clearance arrives at Latvijas Pasts, according to the new procedure established by the SRS the customer will no longer receive an invitation with the amount of the tax due already calculated, but with information that the item has to undergo customs clearance.
