The stamp and the cover Latvia’s Declaration of Independence – 25 has been designed by Ludis Danilāns. The denomination of the new stamp is € 0.50 and its print run is 1,000,000 copies. The print run of the cover is 1,500. The stamps have been printed at Baltic Banknote printing house in Latvia.

On May 4, 1990, the Supreme Council of the Latvian SSR adopted the Declaration On the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia and renewed the 1922 Constitution of Latvia. That decision empowered the Supreme Council to declare Latvia an independent and democratic state and set a transition period for restoring de facto Latvian rule, which resulted in the assembly of the fifth Saeima (Parliament) of the Republic of Latvia. This fact was subsequently announced to the governments of the then USSR and other countries and nations.
A lot of people invested their hearts and their ideas in recovering a fully independent statehood by joining the Popular Front of Latvia, attending demonstrations, shaping public opinion in Latvia’s regions and voting for the Popular Front’s representatives in local government elections on December 10, 1989, and Supreme Council elections on March 18, 1990.
